I don't remember specifically how long this song took to come together, but it was a very natural and fluid process, drawing upon truth and manipulated truth. I think it was the second song we recorded vocals for this album. Which, in turn, answers that yes, this is on the coming album.

And we hope to be playing it on the coming tour. I think it'll be tricky to pull off but also think we should be able to do it justice. We start rehearsing next week. Got a couple more new bits and bobs to learn as well.

On topic: The line about crazy golf courses - is there a particular reason why crazy golf courses?

Off topic: Are we going to hear about the new member soon? Or will it all be revealed 'on tour'?

Ann Quin killed herself by walking into the sea at Brighton beach.
I was at Brighton beach at a time when I was feeling particularly depressed and happened to be reading her novel 'Three' at the same time. It was a grey early morning and the beach and the horizon looked as I described. I was thinking about Ann Quin and what it must take for someone to make a decision on their life. I've always had a fascination with swimming out as deep as I can without losing control of myself, and I wondered what it takes to lose control. I suppose I was getting carried away with myself, and was brought down to earth when I looked away from the sea. There, within 150 metres of eachother, either side of me, were two crazy golf courses. It brought me away from my vision of personal armageddon and back to earth.

Hope that makes sense.

And your other question. You'll see.

Is this a total misreading of the chorus, or is it about realising both one's insignifigance in History As A Whole but also sort of defiantly clinging to that and deciding it's better to live anyway (No getting rid of me etc.)? Am I thinking too hard about this?

I really, really love the song. More than I am capable of verbalizing. I've always been paranoid about death from general anesthetic, glad I'm not the only one.

Total misreading. It's about drowning.
I'm settling for nothing less than Total Significance.

And I'd not say I'm paranoid about death from general anesthetic, personally.

Thanks a lot for liking the song. The response to it has been overwhelming, to say the least.

Haha what?

My music or something?

No.
Calum only listens to music on his gramophone.

Fuck off, as if I'd been seen with anything but my wax cylinders.

I got the drowning thing, it's just the "five hundred years/symmetry" bit I've been puzzling over. Either way, all of the lyrics are really wonderful, definitely some of your best work yet.

This just keeps getting better. Reminds me of 'Interstate 5' in a weird way, too.
